A Drug That Makes You Dream, Pt. 1

I’m not talking about the game. Rather my recent fascination with the magic herb Salvia Dininorum. This fascination peaked after it was brought to my attention by a close friend of mine, and then another. After doing my research I found it to be easily obtainable. Here is my experience…

What it is: Salvia is a herb that has been used by Mazatec shamans in healing rituals… more commonly today used as a drug — a way to escape conscious reality and is unlike LSD or other herbs/substances. Users report enlightenment and a deeper appreciation for everything after use (if used in a respectful manner.) Read More…

Status: This herb is fully legal in the jurisdiction I reside in.

The Experience: Upon receiving my package — a plain white envelope which contained 1 gram of this herb — I debated with myself on whether or not to try it. After the sun had set and all was calm, I pulled out the bag, placed some leaf in my pipe, sat on the edge of my bed and not so merrily sucked in the smoke, holding it in as long as I could…

The smell was that of sage, and the taste earthy and grassy. As one would assume, not as pleasant as the sweetness of tobacco.

I can say here and now I was not transported to another reality, but did feel Ms. Sally D. coaxing me in. I began to sweat, and it felt as if there were a forcefield dividing me from the other side — the other world. I felt the pull, but was not pushed through it. As best as I can describe it, it felt as if I were in the middle of two waterfalls facing each other. Everything was being sucked in towards the middle, flowing to the endless abyss. I felt the earthly gravity pulling down on me, and I was being sucked down by the waterfalls. — Just as it started, it ended what seemed not even a minute later.

Fairly disappointed I again filled the pipe and sucked in the smoke, this time laid in my bed.

The sweating again started, and by body numbed. The cool air coming in through my window against my skin made me feel as in I were in a wave. The forcefield again presented itself, as if to mock me. I again was not pushed over the edge but rather than the waterfall sensation of the latter trip I felt as if I were in a trance, not being able to move, lying face down in a shallow stream or puddle of water - it was startling to realize that I could still breathe. Only the front of my body submerged as I felt the gentle waves. As the effect subsided (again barely a minute or two past) I again was able to move my body… realizing I had experienced something, but not as I expected.

Result: I was fairly disappointed by the experience. Perhaps it was because of the quality of the extract (for technical purposes, it was a 10x non-standardized extract.) I have perhaps more than half a gram left, and another gram of 10x standardized extract in the mail. I am confident my higher quality leaf will bring about stronger effects, and I do hope I will get to visit the other side.

Until next time — dream.
